Launching a Bed Sheet Brand on Amazon FBA: A 2025 Private Label Guide β€” cover image

Step-by-step playbook for sourcing, packaging, UPC barcoding and FBA-prepping a private label bed sheet brand from an Indian manufacturer.

Bed sheets are one of the most consistently profitable categories on Amazon β€” high repeat purchase, stable demand, and clear differentiation possible through fabric, packaging and brand story. They're also one of the most over-saturated categories. This guide is a no-fluff playbook for launching a private-label sheet brand on Amazon FBA in 2025.

Step 1: Pick a defensible angle, not a "better sheet"

There are already 10,000 100% cotton 400TC sheet sets on Amazon. You won't win on "better cotton." You need a wedge:

  • Audience wedge β€” short-stay rental hosts, college dorms, RV owners, big-and-tall, plus-size beds (Cal King, split king).
  • Fabric wedge β€” bamboo viscose, percale-only, organic-certified, ribbed jersey, deep-pocket fitted only.
  • Use wedge β€” cooling sheets for hot sleepers, anti-pill for sensitive skin, easy-iron travel sets.

Pick one wedge and own it in your listing, packaging and ads. Generic "luxury 1800 thread count" listings die in 90 days.

Step 2: Source from a real manufacturer, not a reseller

The single biggest mistake first-time Amazon sellers make is buying from Alibaba trading companies that don't own a factory. You'll get inconsistent batches, slow turnarounds, and zero leverage when there's a defect.

What to verify before sending a deposit

  • Ask for the factory address and request a video walkthrough
  • Verify ISO 9001:2015 certification (and check the cert numbers on the issuer's website)
  • Get a pre-production sample using your spec sheet, not a stock sample
  • Ask for AQL 2.5 inspection reports on your test order

India (specifically Gujarat) has integrated weaving + finishing + cut-and-sew clusters that are well-suited for FBA-scale orders. Expect MOQs around 500–1,000 pcs per SKU. Royal Mills' own standard MOQ starts at 100 pieces per SKU on bed sheets, duvet covers and custom private label sets β€” worth asking any mill you're evaluating whether they can go that low before you assume 500+ is the floor.

Step 3: Spec sheet β€” be ruthlessly specific

A good spec sheet protects you.

Minimum spec-sheet requirements

  • Fabric, weave, ply, thread count
  • GSM (grams per square metre)
  • Yarn origin and staple length
  • Pantone colour codes (not "white" β€” TPX 11-0601 White Asparagus is different from TPX 11-4800 Blanc de Blanc)
  • Exact size in cm + tuck-in allowance
  • Seam construction (double-needle, French seam, etc.)
  • Packaging: poly bag dim, retail box dim, FNSKU label position, UPC barcode placement
  • AQL inspection level

Step 4: Packaging is your shelf

On Amazon, you have no shelf β€” but the first 5 seconds after the customer opens the box is your unboxing moment. Spend extra on:

  • A custom-printed retail box (not a poly bag)
  • A branded ribbon or tissue wrap
  • A care card with washing instructions + a QR code to a thank-you page
  • A return policy insert

This dramatically improves your Vine and organic review velocity in the first 30 days.

Step 5: FBA-prep and barcoding

For FBA shipments you'll need:

FBA shipment requirements

  • UPC code for each variant (size Γ— colour combination) β€” buy from GS1, not third-party resellers
  • FNSKU label on the retail box (Amazon-generated, applied at the factory)
  • Polybag with suffocation warning (>5"Γ—5")
  • Master carton labelling per Amazon's spec

A good manufacturer will apply UPC + FNSKU at the factory and palletise to Amazon's spec, saving you a 3PL prep fee.

Step 6: Costing β€” work backwards from price

A $59.99 sheet set on Amazon roughly breaks down to:

Example cost breakdown

  • Amazon referral fee (15%): $9
  • FBA fee (~$8 for a 3lb sheet set): $8
  • Storage + returns reserve: $3
  • PPC and promo: $10
  • Landed cost from factory: $12–15
  • Gross margin: $14–18

If the factory FOB price is over $10 for a queen set, the math gets very hard. Negotiate hard on MOQ to get the per-unit cost where it needs to be.

Step 7: Launch with a tight Vine + PPC plan

Use the first 30 Vine reviews to validate the listing, then ramp PPC on long-tail keywords your wedge owns ("deep pocket fitted sheet only," "split king bamboo," "RV short queen sheets"). Don't try to rank for "queen sheet set" on day one.
